Denizli, about 20km away, has slightly cheaper beds but you'll burn the savings on dolmuş rides from the otogar back and forth.
Getting around
- Enter at the south (top) gate and walk down through Hierapolis and the white terraces to the village exit, so gravity does the work instead of climbing up the slippery slope.
- Once you reach the terraces they make you go barefoot to protect the calcium, so bring a bag for your shoes and watch your footing on the uneven sections.
- Cleopatra's Antique Pool charges a separate fee on top of the site ticket, so skip it if you're counting lira. You can already wade in the open terrace pools for free with your entry.
When to go
Beds are cheapest from December through February when it's cold and quiet, then prices climb through spring and peak in July and August, with smaller crowd surges in the April-May and September-October shoulders.
