Getting around
- Take the Kintetsu Limited Express direct from Osaka Namba or Kyoto rather than routing through JR. It drops you at Kintetsu Nara Station, which is a 5-minute walk to Nara Park instead of 20.
- Get into Nara Park before 8 a.m. The deer are calm, the tour buses haven't arrived yet, and Todai-ji's Great Buddha Hall looks completely different without 400 people in front of it.
- The Higashimuki covered arcade near Kintetsu Station has cheap set-lunch teishoku spots for under a thousand yen. Skip the overpriced mochi shops right at the park entrance and eat here instead.
