Where to stay
Most budget hostels sit within a few blocks of the Plaza Principal, either right on it or down the slope toward the pool area on Calle Julio Zuazo Cuenca. The farther downhill you go from the plaza, the cheaper the beds tend to get.
Getting around
- Minibuses to Coroico leave from the Minasa terminal in the Villa Fatima district of La Paz, not the main city bus terminal. Shared trufis run until early afternoon; if you're arriving late, sort transport the night before.
- Death Road bike tours are cheaper booked through La Paz operators than anything sold locally in Coroico. Compare prices on Sagarnaga Street before you leave the city.
- Weekends from June through August fill up fast with Paceños escaping the cold. Book Friday arrivals at least a few days ahead or you'll be competing for the last hammock.
When to go
Hostels are cheapest on weekdays during the rainy months (November through March), and tightest on long weekends and Bolivian public holidays from June through August.
