Most budget guesthouses cluster along Fa Ngum Road on the Mekong riverfront and in the blocks just north of Nam Phu fountain, where temples, the riverside night market, and most restaurants are all walkable. The riverfront strip gets noisy on weekend evenings, so if you need quiet, look for places one or two blocks back.
