Laureles, especially along Carrera 70, runs noticeably cheaper and has a more residential feel worth considering for stays longer than a night or two.

Getting around

  • Load a Civica card at any Metro station. A single fare covers the Metro, Metrocable, and Metroplús buses, so the cable car up to Santo Domingo Savio or Parque Arví effectively costs nothing extra within the transfer window.
  • Grocery shopping in El Poblado (Carulla on Avenida El Poblado, the Éxito nearby) is tourist-priced. Walk or Metro one stop to Estadio or Laureles for the same items at Colombian prices.
  • Skip street taxis for anything over a few blocks. Use InDriver or Cabify, where the fare is set before you get in. Street cabs to/from El Poblado routinely quote two to three times the metered rate to anyone who looks like a visitor.
