Kuta Lombok, on the south coast, is where most backpackers land. Jl. Raya Kuta has a dense stretch of guesthouses within walking distance of Selong Belanak and Mawun beaches. Senggigi, up the northwest coast on Jl. Raya Senggigi, is older and quieter, better as a one-night transit stop before catching a boat from Bangsal harbor to the Gilis.
